WARREN, Mich. – Make that three wins in a row for Macomb Women's Basketball after the Monarchs picked up a 49-27 defensive-minded victory over the visiting Bruins of Kellogg Community College on Wednesday (Dec. 1) in Warren. The Monarchs moved over .500 for the first time this season after the decisive win, improving their record to 4-3 while sending the Bruins to 0-5 overall.
The Monarchs' defense shined throughout Wednesday's contest as it held the Bruins to 11 field goals on 18.3% shooting overall in the 22-point triumph. The Monarchs were only able to connect on 30% of their shots from the floor, but the Blue & White were able to cruise thanks to a 34-6 advantage in points in the paint and a 21-4 edge in points off turnovers.
Balance was key offensively once again as Amy Jackson (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock) led three in double figures with 13 points. Jackson added five assists, four rebounds and three steals in 27 minutes of action, while DeBraya Edwards (Detroit, Mich./Oakland CC) continued her fantastic campaign with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five assists and four steals in 30 minutes Wednesday evening.
Valina Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) had a double-double of her own after pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds and recording 10 points. Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) hauled in nine rebounds and tallied eight points, while Imani McGlown (Clinton Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) recorded a season-best seven rebounds in the Monarchs win.
