ALMA, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball held the host Alma Scots JV to 18 second half points and DeBraya Edwards dropped in a game-high 29 points to pace the Monarchs to a 58-51 road win Friday (Dec. 17). The seven-point victory lifted the Monarchs to their seventh win of the campaign (7-4) and sixth win over the course of their last seven games.
In a game that featured eight lead changes and six ties, including a 43-43 tie at the end of the third quarter, the Monarchs pulled away late by outscoring the Scots 15-8 in the final quarter behind another strong team defensive effort. In all, the Monarchs held the Scots to 18 total points and 20% shooting over the game's final 20 minutes of action to earn their second road win in as many attempts this season.
With 29 points Friday, Edwards (Detroit, Mich./Oakland CC) has now poured in 60 points over the Monarchs past two games (both wins) on an impressive 23-of-37 effort from the floor. On Friday, Edwards proved to be too much for the Scots' defenders as the sophomore sliced into the lane throughout the contest, leading the Monarchs to a decisive 38-24 advantage in points in the paint. Edwards was balanced once again, adding nine rebounds and four assists to her 29-point night, while teammate Amy Jackson (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock) chipped in with 13 points to go along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Imani McGlown (Clinton Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) was crucial to the Monarchs success Friday as the freshman pulled down six rebounds, made timely free throws and added a key fourth quarter block in 29 minutes off the bench. Valina Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) recorded eight points, five rebounds and three steals, and Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) collected six boards (two offensive) and two blocks in the road victory.
