WARREN, Mich. – Paced by an impressive 53-kill effort, Macomb Volleyball earned win No. 5 on the season with a four-set victory over LTU JV on Friday (Sept. 17) inside the Sports & Expo Center. Outside of a sluggish third set, the Monarchs (5-4, 1-0 MCCAA East) cruised to the non-conference victory by set scores of 25-11, 25-12, 21-25 and 25-15.
The tandem of Ja'Nae Davis (Grand Rapids, Mich./Godwin Heights) and Kara Lewicki (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North) led all Monarchs with 12 kills each, while MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, Natalie Husson (Marysville, Mich./Marysville), followed closely with 10 kills on 18 attempts. The trio combined for 34 of the team's 53 kills with Davis leading the way thanks to a hitting percentage of .346.
Lewicki, an All-MCCAA and All-Region selection a season ago, posted a double-double by adding 14 digs to her 12-kill performance.
Erika Knieper (Marshall, Mich./Noblesville) and Samantha Olson (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) checked in with eight and six kills, respectively. Haley Link (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North) chimed in with a pair of kills and recorded one of the Monarchs' 13 aces on the evening.
Defensively, Khloee Stoll (Macomb, Mich./Anchor Bay) was dominant with 27 digs and was joined in double-digit digs by Lewicki (14), while Olson and Juliana Bollini (Washington, Mich./Romeo) recorded 10 each. The strong defense frustrated the opposition and ultimately held LTU JV to 27 kills and 21 errors on 128 attempts.
Emily Langlois (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) tossed up a career-high 44 assists, continuing a strong second season that has included four matches of 30-or-more assists.
The Monarchs return to conference play Tuesday (Sept. 21) with a 7:00 p.m. road tilt at Schoolcraft College. The next home match is Thursday (Sept. 23) opposite Oakland Community College at 7:00 p.m.
