HIGHLIGHTS: YOUTUBE

WARREN, Mich. – Led by a career-high 29 points from Amy Jackson (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock), Macomb Women's Basketball improved to 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the MCCAA East with a 76-41 victory over Alpena Community College Wednesday (Jan. 12) in Warren. Jackson's 29 eclipsed her previous career best by one point and her seven 3-pointers also marked a new career-high.

After the setback, the visiting Lumberjacks of Alpena fell to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the MCCAA East.

Behind Jackson's hot hand and balanced team play, the Monarchs pulled away early and never looked back, turning a 34-16 halftime edge into the 35-point league win. Unselfish team play was the overwhelming theme Wednesday evening as the Monarchs dished out 21 assists on 29 made baskets. The 21-assist effort was two shy of the team's season best of 23 set on Nov. 23 in an 83-56 road win at KVCC.

After leading by 18 at the break, the Monarchs put the game out of reach in the third quarter, outscoring the Lumberjacks 23-8 in the period to take a 57-24 advantage into the fourth before earning the 76-41 victory.

While the unselfish play (21 assists) highlighted the night, the Monarchs were also active defensively as they forced 26 Lumberjack turnovers while collecting 18 steals and five blocks.

Jackson led all scorers with 29 points (seven 3PM) and added six rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists in 35 minutes of action. Jackson was followed by Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) who dropped in 16 points (6-of-9 FGM) to go along with a career-high seven steals. Hudgins also pulled down six rebounds and blocked three shots in one of her best games in a Monarch uniform this season.

Amari Davis-Dobbs (Eastpointe, Mich./Lincoln) checked in with 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point territory, while DeBraya Edwards (Detroit, Mich./Roseville) nearly had a triple-double with nine points, eight assists and eight rebounds while battling through a nagging injury. Valina Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) 10 rebounds, nine points and four assists and Imani McGlown (Clinton Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) ripped down six rebounds and added three steals to help lift the Monarchs to the 35-point triumph.
