Volleyball Sweeps Henry Ford, Earns First Conference Win of the Season

The Monarchs put together an incredible effort to earn the road sweep!

DEARBORN, Mich. – Macomb Volleyball was impressive in every phase Wednesday (Oct. 19) on their way to picking up a 3-0 sweep over the host Henry Ford Hawks by set scores of 25-16, 28-26 and 25-20. The sweep brought the Monarchs their first MCCAA Eastern Conference win of the 2022 campaign, improving the team's record to 5-12 overall and 1-9 in league play.

With the setback, the Hawks shifted to 4-8 overall and 3-7 in the conference.

After experiencing an 0-9 start in league action, the Monarchs were determined to pick up the elusive conference win and did so behind balanced team play and a high-energy effort throughout the three-set contest. As a team, the Monarchs amassed 38 kills on a night where everyone hit in the positive for the first time all season.

After a 25-16 victory in the first set, the Monarchs fought off a pair of set points for the Hawks in the second set to win, 28-26, and eventually sweep the match behind a 25-20 decision in the third and final set.

Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) and Haile Polisano (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) ignited the Monarchs charge at the net with 10 kills each and Riley Fisette (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) added six as the trio accounted for 26 of the team's 38 kills. For Hudgins, the 10-kill effort marked a new career-high.

Setting up the kills was Becca Weiss (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) with a team-high 18 assists, while Kaylee Lathrop (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North) checked in with 11 assists of her own.

Natalie Husson (Marysville, Mich./Marysville) was stuffing the Hawks attack all evening as the sophomore middle accounted for a team-best five blocks. Fisette, Polisano and Olivia Kulka (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) followed with two blocks each.

Khloee Stoll (Macomb, Mich./Anchor Bay) was a force defensively with 20 digs, while the tandem of Polisano and Weiss combined for 20 digs in the winning effort.

The Monarchs will look to string together a winning a streak when they visit Jackson College for a 7 p.m. conference match Monday (Oct. 24).
