#7 Men’s Basketball Pours in 123 Points as Six Reach Double Figures in Opening-Night Victory

Great opening game for the seventh-ranked Monarchs!

HIGHLIGHTS

WARREN, Mich. –
The seventh-ranked Macomb Men's Basketball team impressed in their 2022-23 debut with a convincing 123-52 victory over the visiting Lions of Community Christian College Tuesday (Nov. 1) inside the Sports & Expo Center. The 123 points marked the third most scored in a single game in program history, 13 shy of the program record of 136 scored vs. St. Clair on December 19, 1987. The second-most points scored was 134 (vs. Glen Oaks, Dec. 18, 2017).

The Monarchs were in control and put together a highlight reel on dunks and three-pointers early and often. Up 62-27 at the half, the No. 7 team in NJCAA Division II remained consistent in Tuesday's latter half, outscoring the Lions 61-25 in the frame to earn the 71-point triumph.

As a team, the Monarchs shot 60% from the floor and 53% from three-point land on a night where their lead grew to as many as 74 points. Defensively, the Blue & White held the Lions to 30% shooting (20% from three-point territory) and forced 26 turnovers for a 33-5 points off turnovers advantage.

Aidan Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/DME Academy) dropped in a game-high 22 points on 6-of-9 shooting overall and a 4-of-6 effort from deep, while Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) drained a game-high five triples (5-of-9 3PM) on his way to a 15-point night. Kareem Aburashed (West Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) recorded 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including a trio of first half dunks and Antonio King (Southfield, Mich./Southfield A&T) chipped in with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting (2-of-2 3PM).

Cameron McEvans (Southfield, Mich./Southfield A&T) and Shawn Brown (Oak Park, Mich./Oak Park) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points each on a combined 7-of-12 shooting effort.

Linden Holder (Warren, Mich./Warren De La Salle) dished out seven of the Monarchs' 36 assists on 46 made baskets, while Kyle Millender (Detroit, Mich./DEPSA) followed closely with six assists of his own. On the glass, returning All-Conference and All-Defensive Team performer Jaylen Daughtery (Oak Park, Mich./Ferndale) and Justin James (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) pulled down a team-best seven rebounds, while Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) added six boards to go along with nine points in 12 minutes of action. Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich./Warren De La Salle) provided the highlight of the night with a thunderous dunk as part of an eight-point effort, while Tom McNelis (Fraser, Mich./Fraser) chipped in with seven points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting clip to round it out for the Monarchs Tuesday evening.

The Monarchs return to the court Friday (Nov. 4) at Lake Michigan's Red Hawk Showcase against Southwestern Michigan College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
