BY THE NUMBERS: 10
Balance and depth continues to be the theme for the Monarchs under the direction of second-year head coach
Hassan Nizam. Through six games, three Monarchs average
10 or more points per game.
Aidan Rubio leads the way at 11.3 points per game, while
Tamario Adley (11.0) and
Juwan Maxey (10.5) follow closely in double figures.
BY THE NUMBERS: 56
After a tough game that saw the opposition shoot a red-hot 60% from the field, the Monarchs will look to clamp down once again when they welcome Bryant & Stratton to Warren Tuesday evening. Through six games, the Monarchs allow just south of
56 points per game (55.8)—a number that ranks fifth in NJCAA D2 entering the week.
MONARCH REWIND
The Monarchs traveled to Vincennes University to take part in the McDonald's Classic—one of the top NJCAA events across all sports. A NJCAA D2 program, the Monarchs went to battle with a pair of Top-25 NJCAA D1 teams the likes of No. 13 John A. Logan and No. 23 Vincennes and let one get away against the host Trailblazers as part of an 0-2 weekend.
STAT LEADERS
Aidan Rubio paces a balanced offense with 11.3 points per game and
Linden Holder dishes out a team-best 3.8 assists per contest. On the glass, returning All-Conference and All-Defensive Team selection,
Jaylen Daughtery, averages 6.2 rebounds, including a team-best 1.8 offensive rebounds per game.
Juwan Maxey rips away 2.2 steals per game while also leading the Monarchs from three-point range (43.8% 3PM).
RUBIO'S BLOCK PARTY
Aidan Rubio, the team's leading scorer entering the week, has been a force on both sides of the court this season on his way to also leading the team in blocks. The former Goodrich standout and DME Academy product has amassed 12 blocks (2.0 BPG) and has led the Monarchs in the category in four of six games this season.
NEW RANKING
After playing up a division against a pair of NJCAA D1 opponents and dropping both contests, the Monarchs fell from No. 5 down to No. 12 in this week's NJCAA D2 Rankings. At 4-2 overall, the No. 12 Monarchs will look to get back on track with a pair of home games this week.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Two home games are on the schedule this week for Coach Niz and the Monarchs. On Tuesday (Nov. 15), the Monarchs welcome Bryant & Stratton (OH) to Warren for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. On Friday, Rochester JV comes to town for a rare 6:00 p.m. contest to close out the week. The Monarchs are 18-1 at home under Coach Niz.
A LOOK AT: BRYANT & STRATTON
The Bobcats started the season on a high note with an 85-68 home win over Schoolcraft on Nov. 5. Jalen Barnes recorded a team-high 23 points and Larry Reynolds followed with 20 of his own for the Bobcats in the win. As a team, the Bobcats had four players reach double figures scoring in a game where they held a 21-4 points off turnovers advantage and outscored Schoolcraft 58-40 in the second half alone.
NOT THE SAME TEAMS FROM THE LAST MEETING
Gone is most of the production from last season's 86-70 victory over Bryant & Stratton. Tariq Humes (Fla. Memorial) scored 24 and John Ukomadu (Eastern Kentucky) posted 18 points to go along with a game-high 13 boards in the win. Jiovanni Miles (SVSU) followed with 14 points and five assists in a game that saw the Monarchs up 17 at the break.
