HIGHLIGHTS
WARREN, Mich. – No. 12 Macomb Men's Basketball returned home and got back to their winning ways with a 93-67 victory over the Bryant & Stratton Ohio Bobcats Tuesday (Nov. 15) in Warren. The Monarchs, now 5-2 on the season, outscored the Bobcats 54-30 in the second half to earn the 26-point win.
Before the second half outburst, the Monarchs fended off a hot shooting Bobcats (1-1) team in the opening half as the visitors shot 47.1% from three-point land over the game's first 20 minutes of play. Despite the Bobcats strong first half, the Monarchs were able to take a narrow 39-37 lead into the halftime break thanks to an 18-8 points in the paint edge.
The Monarchs came out a different team in the second half and cruised to the 93-67 victory behind stifling defense and a continued commitment to getting the ball inside. In all, the Monarchs took home the victory behind a 54-18 points in the paint advantage and a 50-14 edge in bench scoring. The Monarchs shot 70% in Tuesday's latter half (57.4% overall) compared to a 30.3% second half effort for the Bobcats.
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) led the Monarchs on his way to recording a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds (both career-high numbers) in the win.
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) checked in with 14 points, four rebounds and three steals, while
Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich./De La Salle) added 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, three assists and three rebounds.
Kareem Aburashed (West Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) recorded 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting overall (2-of-3 3PM) to round out the double-digit scorers for the Monarchs. Aburashed also pulled down six rebounds in 18 minutes of action Tuesday evening.
Cameron McEvans (Southfield, Mich./Southfield A&T) and
Tom McNelis (Fraser, Mich./Fraser) dropped in nine points each, while
Justin James (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) chipped in with six points and a team-high four assists. McNelis shot a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor (2-for-2 3PM).
