WARREN, Mich. – Five Monarchs reached double figures and freshman wing
Antonio King (Southfield, Mich./Southfield A&T) posted a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds as No. 12 Macomb Men's Basketball rolled to a 101-46 home win over Rochester University JV Friday (Nov. 18) in Warren. The win lifts the Monarchs early season record to 6-2 with the two losses coming to Top-20 NJCAA Division I teams.
The Monarchs led 48-25 at the half and continued to cruise over the game's final 20 minutes in the 54-point win. As a team, the Monarchs shot 49.4% from the field overall and 52.3% in a second half performance that saw the Blue & White outscore the Warriors, 53-21.
For the second time in as many games, the Monarchs controlled the action down low and went on to earn a 60-10 advantage in points in the paint, as well as a 58-33 edge in rebounds that led to a 37-5 differential in second chance points. The Monarchs defense was able to force 19 Warrior turnovers and turned the extra possessions into a 29-3 advantage in points off turnovers.
King's double-double led the way and his 15 rebounds marked a new career-high. The Southfield A&T product also added four assists to his 17-point, 15-rebound effort in 20 minutes of action.
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) tallied 14 points and added eight rebounds, while
Jaylen Daughtery (Oak Park, Mich./Ferndale) and
Aidan Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/DME Academy) poured in 13 points each. Daughtery and Rubio each pulled down six rebounds while the latter dished out three assists and blocked three Warrior shots in the win.
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points on four triples and
Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich./De La Salle) posted a balanced night with nine points, a team-best six assists and five rebounds.
The Monarchs host Glen Oaks Community College Tuesday (Nov. 22) at 7:30 p.m. The Vikings are a member of the MCCAA Western Conference and are tied atop the West at 4-1 at the time of this release.
