BY THE NUMBERS: 1
The Monarchs have been terrific at home under second-year head coach
Hassan Nizam. As part of a first year that culminated in an Eastern Conference Title and a MCCAA Championship, the Monarchs went 16-
1 at home in 2021-22 and are 20-
1 at home under Coach Niz overall. The
one loss? A 72-68 setback to Glen Oaks on Nov. 24, 2021.
BY THE NUMBERS: 56
The Monarchs defense continues to be a force this season as the Blue & White have limited the opposition to just
56 points per game through eight games played. The
56 points against ranks fourth in all of NJCAA Divison II and marks the fewest points given up out of teams with seven or more games played (at the time of this release).
MONARCH REWIND
The Monarchs got back on track with a pair of home victories last week to move to 6-2 on the season (only losses to a pair of NJCAA Division I perennial powers). On Tuesday (Nov. 15), the Monarchs used a strong second half to defeat Bryant & Stratton Ohio, 93-67. On Friday (Nov. 18), the Monarchs cruised over Rochester JV, 101-46.
STAT LEADERS
Juwan Maxey leads three Monarchs in double figures with 11.1 points per game and is followed closely by
Tamario Adley and
Aidan Rubio who check in with 11.0 and 10.5 points per game, respectively. On the glass,
Tymias Williams rips down a team-best 5.8 rebounds per game, while
Jaylen Daughtery averages 5.6 rebounds of his own.
Linden Holder's 3.8 assists per contest leads a Macomb team that averages 22.6 per game.
WHAT A WEEK FOR WILLIAMS
Freshman forward
Tymias Williams had a huge week and broke out to the tune of averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds in two home wins. On Tuesday, Williams had a career night with 18 points and 12 rebounds (both career highs) in a 36-point win. Three days later, Williams posted 14 points and eight boards in a 55-point victory.
UP ONE SPOT
After playing against a pair of NJCAA D1 perennial powers and dropping both contests, the Monarchs fell from No. 5 down to No. 12 in last week's rankings. Following two home wins last week, the Monarchs moved up one spot to No.11 in the Nov. 21 edition of the rankings.
A LOOK AT: GLEN OAKS
The Vikings of Glen Oaks Community College will visit the Sports & Expo Center Tuesday (Nov. 22) with a 4-2 record. The Vikings will be hungry for a win after narrowly missing out on upsetting then No. 4 Milwaukee Area Tech in an 80-78 loss over the weekend. Qualan Pettus paces four Vikings in double figures with 13.4 points per game.
A LOOK AHEAD
Following the Monarchs home tilt with the Vikings, the nation's 11th ranked team will have an extended break away from game action with the next contest coming at home Dec. 2 when undefeated Cuyahoga (OH) visits Warren. From there, the Monarchs will hit the road Dec. 7 to visit Kellogg before traveling to Western New York to take part in Niagara County CC's T-Wolves Holiday Classic Dec. 10-11.
KING'S BIG NIGHT
Freshman wing
Antonio King stuffed the stat sheet on his way to netting 17 points and pulling down a career-high 15 rebounds in the Monarchs' 101-46 home win over Rochester JV. The former Southfield A&T standout also added four assists to his 17-point, 15-rebound effort in 20 minutes of action in his best all-around game at the collegiate level.
