BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – The seventh-ranked Macomb Men's Basketball team continued its defensive dominance in an 85-47 road win over the Lake Michigan College Red Hawks Saturday (Nov. 5) in Benton Harbor. The 38-point decision lifted the Monarchs early season record to 3-0 and shifted the Red Hawks record to 1-2.
Defensively, the Monarchs were relentless once again, holding the host Red Hawks to 47 points on 26.7% shooting. The 47 points was right on the Monarchs season average of points per game against (47.0) after holding their first three opponents to 52, 42 and 47 points, respectively. On the offensive side, the Monarchs eclipsed 80 for the second time in three games and are averaging 94.3 points per game.
On Saturday, the Monarchs shot out to a 44-17 halftime lead behind 50% shooting from the floor and a defensive effort that held the Red Hawks to four field goals on 11.4% shooting.
Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich./Warren De La Salle) capped off the impressive opening half with a half court buzzer beater to give the Monarchs the 27-point lead at the break.
On top of the delta in shooting percentages, the Monarchs held advantage in points in the paint (24-2), bench points (19-8) and fast break points (11-3) in the opening stanza.
Second half action saw the Monarchs cruise to victory as every player scored and played significant minutes.
In all, the Monarchs outscored the Red Hawks in the paint by a 48-8 margin and earned a decisive edge in bench points (41-6) and fast break points (22-3).
Adley paced all Monarchs with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, adding four rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes of action.
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) checked in with 11 points, three assists and three steals, while
Kareem Aburashed (West Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) finished with 10 points and five rebounds in the victory.
Jaylen Daughtery (Oak Park, Mich./Ferndale) ripped down a game-high nine rebounds to accompany eight points and a pair of blocks and
Aidan Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/DME Academy) recorded a career-best five blocks to help ignite the Monarchs defensive effort.
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) followed Rubio with three blocks and added five points and four rebounds.
The point guard tandem of
Linden Holder (Warren, Mich./Warren De La Salle) and
Cameron McEvans (Southfield, Mich./Southfield A&T) quarterbacked the offense fluidly as Holder had seven points and a game-high six assists and McEvans tallied eight points to go along with five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Monarchs return to action Tuesday (Nov. 8) at home with a rare 5:30 p.m. tip-off against Washtenaw Community College.
