BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Up 47-26 at the half, No. 9 Macomb Men's Basketball fought off a second half surge by the host Kellogg Bruins to pick up a 75-60 road victory in Battle Creek Wednesday (Dec. 7). The win lifts the Monarchs record to 9-2 on the season ahead of Saturday's showdown at No. 4 and undefeated Niagara County Community College.
The Bruins fell to an even 4-4 on the season after the 15-point home setback to the Monarchs.
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) paced the Monarchs with a team-best and new career-high 18 points. Maxey poured in four 3-pointers and added a team-high six rebounds in 27 minutes of action. Maxey was followed by
Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich./De La Salle) who shot 6-of-8 from the floor on his way to 14 points and
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) who dropped in 11 points and added three boards in the 15-point road win.
Linden Holder (Warren, Mich./De La Salle) spread the ball around for four assists and grabbed four rebounds, while
Cameron McEvans (Southfield, Mich./Southfield A&T) chipped in with nine points in 11 minutes of action.
Kareem Aburashed (West Bloomfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) posted eight points on 4-of-6 shooting and
Aidan Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/DME Academy) followed with six points on 50% shooting.
As a team, the Monarchs were able to earn a 28-3 advantage in points off turnovers and a 40-20 edge in points in the paint.
The Monarchs head to New York this weekend to take part in Niagara County's T-Wolves Holiday Classic. Up first is a matchup with No. 4 and host Niagara County Saturday (Dec. 10) at 7 p.m. The Monarchs will wrap up their time in New York with a 1 p.m. tip-off Sunday against Monroe Community College.
