WINTER PARK, Fla. – Fresh off a thrilling win last night, Macomb Baseball couldn't keep its momentum going as runs were hard to come by in a 4-1 loss to NCAA Division II Rollins College JV Wednesday (March 9) in Winter Park, Fla. With the setback, the Monarchs fall to 1-6 on their current spring trip in the Sunshine State.
It should be noted, Wednesday's single nine-inning game wasn't against a standard JV team. It was against the reserves of a deep program that had four players drafted in 2019 alone.
Gary Glaser III (Chesterfield, Mich./Lutheran North) got the start and allowed two runs in five innings while striking out two.
Cameron Ison (Huntington Woods, Mich./Berkley) came on for the final three innings of work and recorded five punchouts while allowing one earned in the 4-1 setback. The pair did more than hold their own, combining to hold the Tars to three earned runs while striking out seven in the nine-inning contest.
Offensively, the Monarchs were led by freshman first baseman
Casey Pezzoni (Howell, Mich./Howell) who went 2-of-3 to account for one-third of the Blue & White's hits in Wednesday's contest.
Adam Amodei (Mt. Clemens, Mich./Chippewa Valley),
Jack Lyndrup (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North),
Josh Medrano (Surprise, Az./Shadow Ridge) and
Mason Spezia (China Twp., Mich./St. Clair) each had a hit for the Monarchs, while
Jett Land (Oxford, Mich./Lapeer) was credited with the lone RBI after drawing a bases loaded walk.
The Monarchs return to Auburndale for their final game in the 2022 RussMatt Invitational Thursday (March 10) against Erie CC (NY). First pitch is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. at Lake Myrtle Park.
