WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Baseball was finally able to finish its season series with the Schoolcraft College Ocelots Wednesday (April 20) after adverse weather forced a couple of postponements. The Monarchs took game one of Wednesday's twin bill by a 6-4 final before dropping the series finale, 16-6.
With the split, the Monarchs see their record shift to 7-23 overall and 5-11 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. The Ocelots ended the day with an 11-20 overall mark and a 6-10 record in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.
GAME ONE: Macomb 6, Schoolcraft 4
The Monarchs fell behind 3-0 early but took the lead for good on a four-run fourth inning that was jumpstarted by sharp single to left field by
Josh Medrano (Surprise, Az./Shadow Ridge).
Jack Lyndrup (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) followed two batters later with a single to load the bases and
Ty Mychek (Ray Twp., Mich./Romeo) earned an RBI via a bases-loaded walk to get the Monarchs' first run on the board.
Logan Rybarczyk (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) tied the game with a two-RBI single to center and
Harrison Ryan (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) closed out the scoring in the four-run fourth inning with an RBI of his own to give the Monarchs a 4-3 lead.
Two innings later, Mychek drove a ball to deep right field for his second triple of the season, scoring
Trace Hudson (Farmington, Mich./Lapeer) on the play to give the Monarchs a 5-3 edge. Rybarczyk capped off the scoring in the opener with a bunt single that plated Mychek one batter later.
Rybarczyk led all Monarchs with three RBIs and did so on a 2-for-3 effort, while Mychek followed with a pair of RBIs on a 1-for-2 clip in game one. Medrano paced the Monarchs in hits, going 3-for-4 with three singles and a run scored.
On the mound,
Gary Glaser III (Chesterfield, Mich./Lutheran North) picked up his second win of the season after working six innings and striking out five Ocelots. Glaser held the Ocelots to six hits over his six innings on the hill and only allowed three earned to pick up the win.
Bryan Masterson (Roseville, Mich./Roseville) stepped on the mound in the seventh with the Monarchs up 6-4 and closed the door to earn his first save of the season (also the Monarchs first save of the campaign).
GAME TWO: Schoolcraft 16, Macomb 6
Game two went in favor of the Ocelots by a 16-6 final tally after the visitors broke a 6-6 tie to score the final 10 runs of the game to earn the win.
Harrison Ryan and
Logan Rybarczyk led the Monarchs in game two with two hits each, while
Tom Burt (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) recorded a team-high two RBIs in the nightcap.
Ryan had the Monarchs lone extra-base hit in game two with a sixth inning double to right center.
UP NEXT: SC4 Series
The Monarchs will travel to Sanborn Park in Port Huron for the first two games of their four-game set with SC4 Friday (April 22). First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The Monarchs return home for a doubleheader opposite SC4 Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
