COMBINED SHUTOUT IN GAME ONE HELPS MONARCHS SECURE SPLIT

PORT HURON, Mich. – Joey Tedesco picked up his first win at the collegiate level and Ethan Miller came in for the extended save to help lead Macomb Baseball to a 3-0 game one victory over the Skippers of St. Clair County Community College (SC4) Friday (April 22) in Port Huron. The Monarchs couldn't carry over the momentum from the shutout victory in the opener, dropping game two by an 8-1 final.

With the split, the Monarchs see their record move to 8-24 overall and 6-12 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. The Skippers ended the day with a 12-17 mark overall and remained tied with the Monarchs in the MCCAA East at 6-12.

GAME ONE: Macomb 3, SC4 0
Joey Tedesco (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./GP North/Hillsdale) was off to his best start of the year and gave way to Ethan Miller (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) who came in to slam the door over nearly four innings of work. The pair combined for a shutout, striking out 10 Skippers while only yielding four hits in the impressive performance. For his efforts, Tedesco earned his first win at the collegiate level and was assisted by Miller who worked three and two thirds of one-hit ball for his first save in a Monarch uniform.

At the plate, the Monarchs were able to put up three runs, the first two coming in a busy fourth inning. Ty Mychek (Ray Twp., Mich./Romeo) got the inning started with a hard-hit ball through the right side, and after stealing second, came in to score on a Skipper error. Logan Rybarczyk (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) laid down well-placed bunt one batter later to for a fielder's choice RBI after Trace Hudson (Farmington, Mich./Lapeer) slid under the catcher's tag to give the Monarchs a 2-0 lead.

Benjamin Dillabough (Warren, Mich./Warren Mott) drove in an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single that scored Jeremy Pudlik (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott), giving the Monarchs a three-run lead that would eventually hold as the final score, 3-0.

Dillabough and Mychek paced the Monarchs at the plate with four of the team's five hits. Adam Amodei (Mt. Clemens, Mich./Chippewa Valley) had the other hit – a sixth inning double for the Monarchs lone extra-base hit of the contest.

GAME TWO: SC4 8, Macomb 1
A few errors got the Monarchs in an early hole as SC4 plated all eight of their runs in the first two innings in the 8-1 decision. In all, the Monarchs committed five errors in an unlucky second game.
Harrison Ryan (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) went 2-for-3 and drove in the Monarchs only run in the nightcap, while Ty MychekJeremy Pudlik and Logan Rybarczyk all recorded doubles in the setback.
Brendan Bos (Howell, Mich./Howell) was strong in relief, tossing two perfect frames to end the game.
