WARREN, Mich. – Much like softball, Macomb Baseball earned a split Friday (April 8) on a day where it was a tale of two games with the Monarchs winning game one, 7-2, and the visiting Pioneers taking game two, 6-1. With the split, the Monarchs check in at 4-19 overall and 3-7 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. The Pioneers sit at 5-8 overall and are now 1-6.
The same two teams will meet tomorrow at Macomb beginning at 1:00 p.m. Delta is the home team for tomorrow's doubleheader.
GAME ONE: Macomb 7, Delta 2
The Monarchs took game one by a 7-2 final thanks to a six-run fifth inning that was highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of
Tom Burt (Clinton, Mich./Clinton). Burt paced all Monarchs with a 2-for-4 performance with four RBIs. The home run was Burt's second of the season (second at the collegiate level).
Jeremy Pudlik (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) was the lone other Monarch with two hits, going 2-for-4 with a run driven in and a run scored.
Four other Monarchs recorded hits, led by a
Josh Medrano (Surprise, Az./Shadow Ridge) 12-pitch at-bat RBI single to jump start the fifth inning.
Ryan VanSlambrouck (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) got the start and the win for the Monarchs after going five innings and holding the Pioneers to one earned run on four hits (four strikeouts).
Bryan Masterson (Roseville, Mich./Roseville) came on to work the final two innings and shut the door with an efficient two strikeout, one hit performance.
GAME TWO: Delta 6, Macomb 1 (8 innings)
Game two went to extras where the visiting Pioneers capitalized by scoring five in the top of the eighth to earn a 6-1 win in eight innings. The Monarchs had chances to win it late, including putting two runners on with no outs in the sixth and seventh innings, but game two belonged to the visitors as the Pioneers earned the extra-innings win.
