WARREN, Mich. – Gary Glaser III went the distance and
Josh Medrano provided the pop with a pair of doubles as Macomb Baseball rebounded from a 4-3 game one loss to win the nightcap by a 4-2 final on Saturday (April 9) in Warren. With the split, the Monarchs and Delta College Pioneers split their season series at two games apiece.
The Monarchs ended the day with a 4-8 record in the MCCAA Eastern Conference and a 5-20 mark overall. The Pioneers finished the series with a 6-9 overall mark and a 2-7 record in the conference.
GAME ONE: Delta 4, Macomb 3
The Monarchs jumped on top early with a two-run first inning thanks to a Delta error and RBI walk by freshman outfielder
Logan Rybarczyk (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay). Unfortunately, the Monarchs couldn't bring another run in over the next five innings as Delta leaped in front, 4-2, off four unanswered runs. In the seventh, the Monarchs threatened but could only plate one run as the Blue & White fell in a narrow 4-3 decision.
Rocco Comito (Macomb, Mich./Cardinal Monney),
Benjamin Dillabough (Warren, Mich./Warren Mott),
Josh Medrano (Surprise, Az./Shadow Ridge) and
Ty Mychek (Ray Twp., Mich./Romeo) all recorded a hit in the opener.
GAME TWO: Macomb 4, Delta 2
Game two belonged to the Monarchs, and more specifically the left arm of
Gary Glaser III, as the second-year pitcher bounced back from allowing two first-inning runs to shut down the Pioneers the rest of the way in the 4-2 win. Glaser went the distance, and tossed six consecutive scoreless innings, while punching out six Pioneers to earn his first win of the 2022 campaign.
While Glaser tied up the Pioneer bats,
Benjamin Dillabough and
Josh Medrano provided the pop for the Monarchs by combining for three doubles and two RBIs. Medrano went 2-for-4 in game two with a pair of doubles, while Dillabough went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Dillabough drove in the game-winning run on a sac fly RBI in the fifth that gave the Monarchs a 3-2 lead. Two innings later, Dillabough drove in an insurance run for the Monarchs on a double to deep left center that brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Blue & White. The 4-2 score would stand as the final score after Glaser shut the door in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game with his sixth strikeout (fifth looking).
Medrano and
Joey Tedesco (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./GP North/Hillsdale) led the Monarchs with two hits each in the nightcap.
