FLINT, Mich. – Macomb Volleyball opened MCCAA Eastern Conference action on the road Wednesday (Aug. 31) at the five-time defending champion Mott Bears and the match went in favor of the hosts in straight sets (12-25, 14-25, 17-25). The setback drops the Monarchs to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Bears, a team who received votes in the NJCAA Division II Preseason Poll, improved to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the MCCAA East.
Jordan Turner (Highland Park, Mich./Wilmington University) paced the Monarchs attack with five kills and four block assists, while Riley Fisette (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) checked in with three kills. Becca Weiss (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) tossed up 12 assists in the three-set contest and added 11 digs and Khloee Stoll (Macomb, Mich./Anchor Bay) posted a team-best 19 digs in the road setback.
Olivia Kulka (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) and Natalie Husson (Marysville, Mich./Marysville) rounded out the top performers with four and three block assists, respectively.
The Monarchs return to action Friday (Sept. 2) at the Owens Invitational in Perrysburg, Ohio. First serve Friday is set for 11:00 a.m. against Edison State – all matches will be played at Owens Community College.
