WARREN, Mich. – Up 2-0, Macomb Volleyball couldn't close out Henry Ford as the visiting Hawks stormed all the way back to win Monday's MCCAA Eastern Conference match in five sets (25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 27-29, 9-15). With the setback, the Monarchs sit at 3-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play. The Hawks moved to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the MCCAA East.
Before it all turned around, the Monarchs were cruising, winning set one by a 25-21 margin and set two by a 25-23 score. The Monarchs held leads in sets three and four, including a six-point advantage early in the fourth set, but couldn't hang on in the five-set contest.
While the Monarchs didn't get the outcome they wanted, several players either tied or set career-highs Monday evening. Freshman setter
Becca Weiss (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) tallied a career-best 21 assists against the Hawks, while fellow setter
Jacalyn Jarvie (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) also recorded a career-high in the category with 13 assists of her own.
Haile Polisano (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) put her balance on display once again with 11 kills to go along with 12 digs and a career-best four aces, and
Riley Fisette (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) posted a career-high-tying 12 kills to pace the Monarchs' attack.
Khloee Stoll (Macomb, Mich./Anchor Bay) recorded her ninth match with 30 or more assists in a Monarch uniform, while
Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) and
Jordan Turner (Highland Park, Mich./Wilmington Univ.) notched three block assists each.
