Game Notes: Two Top-15 Opponents Ahead This Week for Sixth-Ranked Monarchs

The No. 6 Monarchs Host No. 5 Henry Ford Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., visit No. 14 Mott Saturday at 3 p.m.

BY THE NUMBERS: 45
Conference play started strong Saturday as the Monarchs cruised to a 107-50 win over Schoolcraft. With the 57-point win, the Monarchs improved to 3-0 against Schoolcraft under the guidance of second-year head coach Hassan Nizam. In that span, the Monarchs have outscored the Ocelots, 320-183, winning by an average of 45 points.

BY THE NUMBERS: 60
Sticking with Saturday's victory, the Monarchs attacked the basket early and often on their way to shooting 64% from the floor while recording a season-high 62 points in the paint. The dominant effort down low marked the third time this season the Monarchs have tallied 60 or more points in the paint after twice netting 60 in non-conference play.

MCCAA EAST GAUNTLET
The gauntlet that is the MCCAA Eastern Conference continues this week for Macomb Men's Basketball when the sixth-ranked Monarchs host No. 5 Henry Ford Wednesday (Jan. 18) at 7:30 p.m. before traveling to play No. 14 Mott Saturday (Jan. 21) for a 3 p.m. tip-off. Following this week's games, the Monarchs visit No. 10 SC4 on Jan. 25.

STAT LEADERS
After 19 more points against Schoolcraft, Tamario Adley continues to lead the Monarchs in scoring at 13 points per game (PPG), while Juwan Maxey and Aidan Rubio check in next with a matching 10.6 PPG. Jaylen Daughtery and Tymias Williams lead the effort on the glass with 5.9 and 5.8 rebounds, respectively, while Linden Holder's four assists per contest paces a Macomb team that averages 21.3 per game.

BALANCED SCORING
While the trio of Tamario Adley, Juwan Maxey and Aidan Rubio pace the scoring, the Monarchs remain balanced throughout the scoring column with nine players averaging five or more points per game. Cameron McEvans (8.8 PPG) and Tymias Wiliams (8.4 PPG) lead a cast of six Monarchs averaging between five and nine points per contest.

CAREER DAY X 2
Saturday was a career day for a pair of freshmen as Kareem Aburashed and Kyle Millender both tallied a career-high 16 points in the Monarchs' 107-50 win over Schoolcraft. Aburashed grabbed seven rebounds while Millender added six assists and hauled in five boards.

A LOOK AT: #5 HENRY FORD
The Henry Ford Hawks enter Wednesday's contest with a record of 9-4 overall and a 1-0 mark in conference play. A deep and highly-skilled team, the Hawks average 87.5 points per game and lead the MCCAA in 3-pointers made (10.9) and attempts (31.7) per contest. D'Juan Seal (25.3) and D'Quarion Cole (20.2) combine for 45.5 PPG.

A LOOK AT: #14 MOTT
The Mott Community College Bears enter the week with a record of 13-3 overall and 1-0 in the MCCAA East after going on the road and winning their league opener over then No. 7 SC4, 96-90. Mekhi Ellison paces three players in double figures with 17.4 points per game for a Bears team that nets 81.3 per contest. The Bears are the top rebounding team in the MCCAA at 46.1 boards per game (15.1 offensive).

DOESN'T HAPPEN OFTEN
Wednesday's (Jan. 18) top-10 contest in Warren between No. 6 Macomb and No. 5 Henry Ford will mark the first meeting between a pair of teams ranked in the top six in the MCCAA East since Jan. 3, 2019, when then No. 4 Schoolcraft took on No. 5 Mott.

On Jan. 22, 2022, former Monarch and current SVSU standout, Jiovanni Miles, poured in a career-high 50 points in a 105-62 win over Schoolcraft on 19-of-27 shooting overall and nine 3-pointers.
