WARREN, Mich. – Back on track! Macomb Volleyball snapped a five-match skid on Monday (Oct. 2) when they defeated the Oakland Community College (OCC) Raiders in three sets (25-11, 25-19, 25-22). The win—the Monarchs third home sweep in as many matches inside the Sports & Expo Center—pushes the team's record to 7-9 overall and more importantly to 3-3 in the MCCAA East.
The visiting Raiders fell to 3-14 overall and 2-4 in the MCCAA East after dropping the three-set match to the Monarchs.
The Monarchs were firing on all cylinders early and often and won the opening set by a commanding 25-11 tally to take the lead. The Raiders battled back to make the next two sets closer, but the Monarchs ultimately prevailed 25-19 in set two and later closed the match out with a 25-22 win in set three.
Fresh off a 55-kill week, sophomore middle hitter
Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) continued her strong play with team-high-tying 10 kills Monday evening.
Adeline Tresnak (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) matched Hudgins with 10 kills and
Grace Amoe (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) followed with five kills to round out the offensive leaders at the net.
Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) tallied 25 assists and added a team-leading three aces, while
Nikole Nikolova (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) paced the back row effort with 18 digs. Elliott was the lone other Monarch in double-digit digs with 10.
Defensively at the net,
Katarina Gavric (Canton, Mich./Salem) and Hudgins tied for a team-best four blocks while Amoe followed closely with three blocks of her own.
The Monarchs begin round two of MCCAA East play with a road trip to Port Huron Wednesday (Oct. 4) to take on the SC4 Skippers. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. at the SC4 Fieldhouse. SC4 will
