AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Wrapped up MCCAA Eastern Conference play in style! Macomb Volleyball held off a spirited effort by the host OCC Raiders Wednesday (Oct. 25) to win in three sets (25-16, 25-23, 25-8). The sweep lifted the Monarchs to 11-11 overall and ended the Blue & White's league record at 7-5.
With the 7-5 league record, the Monarchs' upcoming NJCAA Region XII District Tournament spot is secured as the East No. 4 seed. As the East No. 4, the Monarchs will play the South No. 1 seed, Edison State Community College, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. All tournament matches will be played at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron. We will break down the tournament in next week's game notes.
On Wednesday, the Monarchs made the short business trip to Auburn Hills to battle the Raiders of Oakland Community College and came away with a three-set sweep after staving off a tough challenge in set two.
Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) was a force from start-to-finish as the sophomore slammed home 14 kills on 22 attacks (two errors) for a .545 hitting percentage and added four block assists and three aces in a dominant showing to wrap up a phenomenal conference campaign.
Hudgins was followed in double-digit kills by
Mallory Cardinale (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) with 10 kills on a .267 hitting percentage.
Adeline Tresnak (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) checked in with nine kills and added a team-best 17 digs as part of a stellar all-around effort Wednesday evening.
Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) posted a double-double with 30 assists and 13 digs, while
Nikole Nikolova (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) recorded 11 digs to go along with three aces in the three-set win.
Becca Weiss (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) joined Nikolova, Elliott and Hudgins with three aces and Tresnak added two to account for the Monarchs' 14 digs on the night.
The Monarchs conclude regular season action Monday (Oct. 30) at Rochester University. The final tune-up before Great Lakes District A Tournament play is slated for a 6 p.m. first serve from Garth Pleasant Arena on the campus of Rochester University.
