TIME TO GO TO WORK
It's time to tip-off the 2023-24 campaign and time to go work! The new-look Monarchs get their season started Saturday (Nov. 4) at home opposite Cuyahoga Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday's game tips off the season, as well as the collegiate coaching career of first-year head coach,
Christopher Burns! Good luck this season, Coach!
TALENT-LADEN RECRUITING CLASS
While four Monarchs return from last year's record-breaking team, the men's basketball program added plenty of talent and depth across the board with an impressive recruiting class. The talented newcomers consist of transfers
Nate Brown,
Parker Day and
Josh Hines, as well as incoming freshmen
DaMaryon Fishburn,
Lajuan Holloway,
Tate MacKenzie,
Jotham Nweke and
Marlon Williams.
WELCOMING BACK PRODUCTION
Key experience is back in the lineup this season as
Justin James,
Juwan Maxey,
Kyle Millender and
Tymias Williams return for year two at Macomb. Maxey and Williams—All-Conference selections in 2022-23—return a combined 40 starts from a season ago, while the tandem of James and Millender appeared in a combined 47 games last year.
GOING FOR WIN #800
On the verge of history! The Macomb Men's Basketball program enters the 2023-24 season with 799 wins all-time. First competing in the 1966-67 season, the proud program will go for all-time win No. 800 on Saturday at 3 p.m. when the Monarchs battle the Triceratops.
A LOOK AT: CUYAHOGA
Led by head coach Aaron Nixon, the Cuyahoga Community College Triceratops return several players from a team last season that went 24-7 and qualified for the NJCAA Great Lakes District C Tournament. Last year, the Triceratops made the trip to Warren and battled back from a double-digit deficit in a narrow 68-66 loss to the Monarchs.
A CHALLENGING NON-CON SLATE
Buckle up, this is going to be one fun (and challenging) non-conference slate! In all, the Monarchs are currently scheduled to play 13 non-conference games with three of those contests coming against ranked teams (two in the top five). The first of the ranked games comes on Nov. 11 when the Monarchs visit No. 17 Ellsworth, while dates with No. 3 Niagara County and No. 5 South Suburban await in December.
MCCAA EAST GAUNTLET
Another year, another gauntlet ahead in what many consider to be the toughest NJCAA Division II conference in the country! Three other MCCAA East teams are ranked in the NJCAA Preseason Poll alongside the sixth-ranked Monarchs as Henry Ford checks in at No. 2, Mott slots in at No. 16 and SC4 rounds out the ranked teams at No. 19.
