WARREN, Mich. – In a back-and-forth battle, Macomb Women's Basketball prevailed thanks in large part to late-game heroics by
Kamryn Richards as the sophomore guard drained a corner 3-pointer in the final second of play to lift the Monarchs to a 73-72 win over Delta College Wednesday (Nov. 15). The thrilling victory propels the Monarchs early season record to 2-0. Delta left Warren with an 0-3 record despite battling tough throughout Wednesday's non-conference tilt.
Five Monarchs reached double figures in the win, led by
Marissa Thomas (Toledo, Ohio/Perrysburg) who posted a team-high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and four assists. Richards (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) followed with a stat line of 12 points, five assists and three steals, while freshman guard
Sydney Garon (Shelby Twp., Mich./Henry Ford II) had a strong night with 11 points, five rebounds and a pair of assists.
The reigning MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week,
Tamia Tounsel (Macomb, Mich./Dakota), stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists to help the Monarchs secure the one-point win.
Enddiea Reese (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points on the night.
KEY STAT
In a game that featured 11 lead changes and was decided by one point in the final second of play, the Monarchs and Pioneers attempted 18 free throws each. The Monarchs converted on 14-of-18 attempts from the charity stripe, while the Pioneers shot 11-of-18 from the line.

The Monarchs host Madonna JV Thursday (Nov. 16) at 5:30 p.m. to complete their season-opening homestand. After Thursday's game, the Monarchs will not return home again until Dec. 30 for a 1 p.m. tilt against Alma JV.
