Early Lead Slips Away as Volleyball Falls in Five to South No. 1 Edison State

The Monarchs now face a win-or-go-home match in the double-elimination tournament Friday morning.

PORT HURON, Mich. – Macomb Volleyball held a two-set lead but saw their advantage slip away as the South No. 1 seed Chargers of Edison State (Ohio) rallied back to win the first round match in five sets (25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 18-25, 7-15). The loss sends the Monarchs to the NJCAA Great Lakes District A loser's bracket where they will meet the Southwestern Michigan College Roadrunners in a 'win-or-go-home' match Friday (Nov. 3) at 11 a.m.

All tournament matches are played at St. Clair County Community College.

The Monarchs were led by Adeline Tresnak (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) who posted an incredible 20-20 double-double with 24 digs and 20 kills. The 24 digs set a new career-high while Tresnak's 20 kills tied her previous career-best mark. Tresnak was joined in the double-double club by Mallory Cardinale (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) who tallied 16 digs and 13 kills and Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) who checked in with 47 assists and a career-high 25 digs.

Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) impressed once again with 16 kills on 37 attempts and was a force at the net defensively with three solo blocks and four block assists. The sophomore and recent All-MCCAA and First Team All-Eastern Conference selection added three aces to round out a solid night on the court.

Hudgins was joined by the aforementioned trio of Cardinale, Elliott and Tresnak as players honored by the MCCAA for their outstanding play this season. Elliott joined Hudgins as a First Team All-Eastern Conference selection and earned Eastern Conference All-Freshman Team honors, while Tresnak was tabbed a Second Team All-Eastern Conference and Eastern Conference All-Freshman Team selection. Cardinale rounded out the honors as a Honorable Mention All-Eastern Conference selection Thursday afternoon.

Becca Weiss (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) led the Monarchs in digs (31) and aces (5) while Katarina Gavric (Canton, Mich./Salem) and Grace Amoe (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) combined for seven block assists. Weiss' 31 digs set a new career-high for the sophomore defensive specialist/libero. Lexi Pogasic (Washington Twp., Mich./Romeo) also set a new career-best mark in digs with 12 on the night.
