PERRYSBURG, Ohio – The ninth-ranked Macomb Men's Basketball team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 99-46 road victory at Owens Community College on Tuesday (Nov. 21). The Monarchs shot 65.5 percent on the night, including a 60 percent clip from downtown, to earn the 53-point win in Ohio.
The Monarchs were dialed in from the beginning and took a 40 point lead into the halftime break, 54-14, behind a 77.8 percent effort from 3-point territory in the opening half. The hot shooting continued throughout as the ninth-ranked Monarchs cruised to another decisive win. Over the past three contests, the Monarchs' margin of victory has been 60 points per game.
Defensively, the Monarchs held their third straight opponent under 50 points thanks to a stingy first half defense that limited the Express to 14 points on 5-of-32 shooting.
The combination of strong offense and relentless first half defense helped lead the Monarchs to advantages in points in the paint (54-24), rebounds (46-21), bench scoring (44-28) and points off turnovers (20-10).
Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota/U Indy) returned to the lineup with a splash, posting a game-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting overall and a 2-of-4 effort from 3-point land. Former Dakota teammate
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) followed with 17 points on a perfect 7-of-7 performance from the field. Williams added seven rebounds as part of a balanced night on the hardwood.
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) tallied 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from deep and hauled in a game-high eight rebounds, while
Kyle Millender (Detroit, Mich./DEPSA) recorded 11 points to go along with four assists and four rebounds.
Justin James (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) dished out a game-high five assists and added nine points and
Tate MacKenzie (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) followed with eight points and six rebounds.
The Monarchs have the rest of the week off from game action and will return to the floor Dec. 2 and 3 in Jamestown, NY, at the Jamestown Community College Post Journal Classic.
