Box Score JAMESTOWN, NY – No. 8 Macomb Men's Basketball shook off a slow start in a big way as they ran away from the host Jayhawks of Jamestown Community College to win, 97-65, on night one of the Jim Riggs-Post Journal Classic in Jamestown, NY. The win lifts the Monarchs to 6-1 on the season. The Jayhawks shifted to 2-7 after suffering the 32-point setback to the eighth-ranked Monarchs.
Trailing 8-0 in the early stages of the contest, the Monarchs erupted for an 11-0 run and never looked back on their way to the dominating win. Stingy defense once again led the way as the Monarchs held the Jayhawks to 31-percent shooting overall and 13-percent from 3-point land. Offensively, the Monarchs shot 52-percent from the floor, including a 54-percent clip in the opening half.
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) knocked down four 3-pointers to lead five Monarchs in double figures scoring with 20 points. Maxey added six rebounds and five assists in his latest well-rounded game of the season.
Kyle Millender (Detroit, Mich./DEPSA) followed Maxey with a balanced performance of his own with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. Millender shot 6-of-9 from the floor to tie his career-best scoring output and attacked the basket throughout the night in 25 minutes of work.
Jotham Nweke (Oak Park, Mich./Loyola) tallied a career-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and added seven blocks to go along with four rebounds in 16 minutes of action, while
Parker Day (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage/GVSU) posted an efficient 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting to accompany nine rebounds and four assists.
Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota/U-Indy) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points. Hines also corralled a career-best nine rebounds and added three assists in the win.
ymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) checked in with seven points, six rebounds and four assists and
DaMaryon Fishburn (Detroit, Mich./Trillium Academy) recorded five points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Monarchs have a quick turnaround and will face a tough test Sunday (Dec. 3) at 1 p.m. when they square off with perennial power Niagara County Community College.
