PERRYSBURG, Ohio – Macomb Women's Basketball hit the road for the first time this season Tuesday (Nov. 21) and a tough shooting night led to a 70-34 setback to the host and NJCAA Division III No. 3 Owens Community College Express.
The loss shifts the Monarchs record to 3-1 on the young season. The third ranked Express improved to an even 4-4 overall.
The Express, leading 19-13 through 10 minutes of play, extended their lead to 34-21 at the half behind a +16 differential in points in the paint. The Monarchs got to the line often in the opening half, making 8-of-12 attempts from the charity stripe, but struggled from the floor as the Blue & White only saw 20% of their field goal attempts drop over the game's first 20 minutes of action.
The unlucky night from the floor continued in the latter half as the Monarchs tallied 13 points combined over the third and fourth quarter in the non-conference setback.
Reigning and back-to-back MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week,
Tamia Tounsel, led the Monarchs with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The double-double was Tounsel's (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) third in four games played this season.
Kamryn Richards (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) added seven points, while
Olicia Porritt (Mt. Clemens, Mich./Mt. Clemens) and
Sydney Garon (Shelby Twp., Mich./Henry Ford II) followed with six points and five points, respectively.
The Monarchs will have the rest of the holiday week off and will return to play at Lansing Community College on December 2. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. at Lansing.
