No. 9 Men’s Basketball Cruises to 76-47 Home Win Over Wayne County

The Monarchs held Wayne County to a season-low 47 points (previous low: 61)

HIGHLIGHTS

WARREN, Mich. –
No. 9 Macomb Men's Basketball held the visiting Wayne County Wildcats to a season-low 47 points in a 76-47 home victory Wednesday (Feb. 1) in Warren. The previous season low for the Wildcats (11-6, 3-3 MCCAA East) was 61 points.

With the convincing 29-point victory, the ninth-ranked Monarchs improved to 16-5 overall and moved into a second place tie in the MCCAA East at 4-2. The Monarchs never trailed in Wednesday's win and broke free from an early 15-15 tie by outscoring the Wildcats 34-10 over the final 12 minutes of the opening half to take a 49-25 lead into the halftime break.

The Wildcats scored the first six points of the second half in an attempt to climb back into Wednesday's contest, but the Monarchs proved to be too much as the Blue & White went on to win by the 29-point margin behind 47.5% shooting overall and a 42.3% mark from 3-point territory.

The Monarchs were strong defensively throughout, holding the Wildcats to 1-of-15 shooting from 3-point land and 33.9% shooting overall. The stingy defense held the Wildcats 14 points under their previous season low and created 20 turnovers for a 23-6 points off turnovers advantage.

Aidan Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/DME Academy) led all scorers with 13 points and added six assists, three rebounds and two steals in 22 minutes of work. Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich./De La Salle) followed with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Jaylen Daughtery (Oak Park, Mich./Ferndale) tallied 10 points to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. Linden Holder (Warren, Mich./De La Salle) doled out a game-high seven assists as part of a stat line that included nine points and five rebounds.

Kareem Aburashed (West Bloomfield, Mich./Country Day) and Cameron McEvans (Southfield, Mich./Southfield A&T) posted nine points each with McEvans adding three of the Monarchs' 23 assists on the evening.

The Monarchs visit Jackson College Saturday (Feb. 4) for a 3 p.m. tip-off. Jackson College Men's Basketball will stream the game on their YouTube page here.
