HIGHLIGHTS
JACKSON, Mich. – The ninth-ranked Macomb Men's Basketball team overcame a rocky start to earn a 69-56 road win at Jackson College Saturday (Feb. 4). The Monarchs held the Jets to a point per minute in the second half and only 56 points in total in the 13-point road victory.
The win lifts the Monarchs to 17-5 overall and 5-2 in the MCCAA East. Jackson falls to 13-7 overall and 2-5 in the MCCAA East.
After a quick 9-2 start, the Monarchs stalled as Jackson erased the early deficit to take a 36-31 lead at the half. Trailing by as many as 10 in the first half, the Monarchs came out strong in the latter stanza and used suffocating defense to earn the road victory. The Monarchs scored the first six points of the second half to take the lead and set the tone for a big finish.
Attacking the basket was the theme over the final 20 minutes as the Monarchs shot 62.5% from the field in the second half behind five dunks and several other buckets in the paint. The efficient offensive product, combined with a stingy defensive effort that held the Jets to 20 points on 22.7% shooting in the second half, allowed the Monarchs to take over the game and earn the 13-point victory.
Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich./De La Salle) was a mismatch throughout and made 9-of-13 shots to post a career-high and game-high 22 points.
Jaylen Daughtery (Oak Park, Mich./Ferndale) tied his career-high with 15 points and pulled down a team-best nine rebounds, while
Aidan Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/DME Academy) followed with 14 points and seven rebounds.
The trio of Adley, Daughtery and Rubio combined for 51 of the Monarchs' 69 points Saturday afternoon.
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) posted eight points and four rebounds and
Linden Holder (Warren, Mich./De La Salle) checked in with five points, three assists and three rebounds to round of Saturday's leaders.
The Monarchs remain on the road to take on Schoolcraft College Wednesday (Feb. 8) at 7:30 p.m.
