WARREN, Mich. – A large first half lead slipped away as No. 8 Macomb Men's Basketball fell to the visiting Bears of Mott Community College, 81-76, Wednesday (Feb. 15) in Warren. The loss sends the Monarchs to 18-7 overall and 6-4 in the MCCAA East. Mott, a team receiving votes in the latest national poll, shifts to an equal 18-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
The Monarchs led by as many as 22 and held a 41-29 halftime lead before the Bears chipped away to eventually take the lead. A back-and-forth battle in the latter stages of the game went in favor of the Bears as the visitors left Warren with a five-point win.
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) led five Monarchs in double figures with a game-high 18 points and added seven rebounds and
Kareem Aburashed (West Bloomfield, Mich./Country Day) followed with 14 points and a team-best eight rebounds.
Jaylen Daughtery (Oak Park, Mich./Ferndale) posted 13 points (5-of-5 FG) and six rebounds, while
Linden Holder (Warren, Mich./De La Salle) and
Aidan Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/DME Academy) notched 10 points each.
Rubio also dished out a game-high five assists and
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) added five points to go along with a career-high seven rebounds.
The eighth-ranked Monarchs host No. 13 SC4 Saturday at 3 p.m. Fans will get in free with a canned food/non-perishable food item donation.
