WARREN, Mich. – With key injuries mounting, Macomb Baseball's tough stretch continued Friday (March 24) with a 13-2 setback in the home opener to the Ocelots of Schoolcraft College. The loss sends the Monarchs to 2-11 overall and 0-2 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. The Ocelots improved to 8-10 overall and 1-1 in conference play with Friday's win.
Sophomore southpaw
Joey Tedesco (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North/Hillsdale) got the start and had a solid outing after striking out eight Ocelots across 5.1 innings pitched. Tedesco held the Ocelots to one run over the first five innings but the visitors broke through with two runs in the top of the sixth for a 3-1 lead. Tedesco would exit with only three runs surrendered on a day where run support wasn't there.
The Ocelots erupted over the game's latter innings, scoring 10 of their 13 runs from the seventh inning on in the 13-2 decision.
Offensively,
Reese Rinna (Richmond, Mich./Richmond) led the way with a 2-for-4 day with a pair of doubles. Returning from an early season injury, Rinna hit a double in each of his first two plate appearances Friday and scored the first run of the game to briefly tie it in the fourth, 1-1.
Jack Blomme (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) and
Ben Dillabough (Warren, Mich./Warren Mott) also recorded hits for the Monarchs Friday afternoon.
GAME DATE/TIME ADJUSTED: Due to incoming inclement weather tomorrow, the Monarchs game at Mott scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. has been postponed. The game will be made up Sunday at 2 p.m. at Flint's Kearsley Park.
