An Incredible Run! Monarchs Fall in National Championship Game, Finish Second Nationally

Thank you for everything, Monarchs!

DANVILLE, Ill. – The incredible run that was the 2022-23 Macomb Men's Basketball season came to a close with a national runner-up finish after an 86-65 setback to Milwaukee Area Tech in the NJCAA Division II National Championship Game. The second place finish nationally is the best in program history and it was completed in just the second season for Macomb head coach, Hassan Nizam.

The Monarchs finish the 2022-23 campaign with a 28-8 record – the 28 wins is the most in program history.

In Saturday's title game, the Stormers of Milwaukee Area Tech got off to a hot start and didn't cool down, shooting 63.6% in the first half and over 55% for the game. Much like they did all tournament and all season, the Monarchs battled throughout and trailed by nine at the break before falling by the 86-65 final.

Tamario Adley (Detroit, Mich./De La Salle) paced the Monarchs with 12 points and Jaylen Daughtery (Oak Park, Mich./Ferndale) recorded his second double-double of the tournament with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Linden Holder (Warren, Mich./De La Salle) and Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) tallied eight points each and Justin James (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) chipped in with seven in seven minutes.

ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM: Congratulations goes out to the following Monarchs for earning their way on to the NJCAA Division II National Championship All-Tournament Team: Aidan Rubio, Tamario Adley and Jaylen Daughtery! Rubio (Flint, Mich./Goodrich/DME Academy) poured in 25 and 23 points, respectively, over the first two games of the tournament while all three helped lead the Monarchs throughout the entire run.

Thank you, Monarchs, for the best season in program history!
