three (3) wins away from a Great Lakes District C Championship and a berth into the NJCAA Division II National Championship! The District C Tournament begins at home Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Wayne County. The winner plays Friday at Mott CC vs. the winner of Mid-Michigan vs. Kirtland.
BY THE NUMBERS: 20
Checking in at No. 8 nationally this week, the Monarchs have put together a resume that includes several ranked wins, a 22-7 regular season mark and a 10-4 conference record. The Monarchs have outscored the opposition by
20 PPG this season (81.9 to 61.2) and have outscored Wayne County by an average of 29.5 PPG in two meetings.
HOME PLAYOFF GAME TUESDAY
The Monarchs host a quarterfinal playoff game Tuesday (March 7) when the Wayne County Wildcats visit Warren for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The winner of Tuesday's game moves on to play in the semifinals at Mott CC Friday at 11:30 a.m. vs. the Mid-Michigan/Kirtland winner. The championship is Sunday at 12 p.m., also played at Mott CC.

RUBIO'S CAREER NIGHT
Getting healthy at the right time of the season, freshman wing
Aidan Rubio was a force throughout Thursday's 101-64 road win at OCC. The former Goodrich and DME Academy standout erupted for a career-high 27 points on a career-best seven 3-pointers and added seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals in 26 minutes of work.

THE ROAD TO DANVILLE
The Monarchs are one of six teams in the Great Lakes District C Tournament vying for a berth into the NJCAA Division II National Championship, a 16-team national tournament played March 21-25 in Danville, Ill. The six teams competing in the District C bracket are: Macomb, Kalamazoo Valley, Cuyahoga, Mid-Michigan, Kirtland and Wayne County.
YEAR TWO
Year one of the
Hassan Nizam era brought the Monarchs the program's first conference title since 1992-93 and first outright title since 1983-84, as well as the first MCCAA Championship in program history. In year two, Nizam and the Monarchs are aiming to add a NJCAA Region XII Great Lakes District C Championship and a trip to the NJCAA Division II National Championship to the list of accomplishments in two seasons.
SEASON SERIES VS WCCCD
The Monarchs swept the season series with Wayne County behind a stingy defensive effort that held the Wildcats under 50 points in each meeting. The Monarchs won the first meeting, 76-47, in Warren on Feb. 1 before earning a 79-49 victory in Detroit on Feb. 25. The Monarchs have won four straight and eight out of the last 10 in the series.
