WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Baseball battled hard in Saturday's (April 15) home doubleheader with Schoolcraft and had a game one win within their grasp before the Ocelots hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to erase a 1-0 Monarchs lead. The home run was the Ocelots second hit of the day as one swing of the bat spoiled what could of been the Monarchs first win in conference play. Despite the late home run, the Monarchs played a stellar game and were led by game one starter,
Jake Wohlfert (Hartland, Mich./Hartland), who was impressive throughout Saturday's opener.
Wohlfert tossed a gem over 6.1 innings pitched as the freshman right-handed pitcher held the Ocelots to one hit while posting a career-high nine strikeouts. Wohlfert exited in the seventh after walking a pair of Ocelots. Offensively, the Monarchs' game one run came in via a
Logan Rybarczyk (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) RBI.
After suffering a heartbreaking loss for the second time in as many games, the Monarchs had less than 30 minutes to regroup before the first pitch of game two. In Saturday's latter game, the Monarchs once again showcased their resolve and battled with the Ocelots throughout in an 11-8 setback. The Monarchs led 4-2 in the second inning and later tied the game in the fifth, 6-6, before the Ocelots posted a five-run sixth inning to get the win.
Tyler Hall (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) was one of five Monarchs with a two-hit game after going 2-for-3 with a double and a team-best three RBIs. Hall's former high school teammate,
Dallas Gordon (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley), went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while
Josh Medrano (Surprise, Az./Shadow Ridge) went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Jeremy Pudlik (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and
Logan Ramsey (Warren, Mich./Warren Mott) posted a 2-for-4 game as well.
Ryan VanSlambrouck (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) came on for the final 1.1 innings of work and held the Ocelots to one hit while recording one strikeout.
