WARREN, Mich. – What a night and what a week for Macomb Volleyball! Fresh off a 3-0 sweep over Schoolcraft on Monday, the Monarchs cruised to a 3-0 win over Henry Ford Wednesday (Sept. 20) at the Sports & Expo Center to sweep the day and sweep the week over a pair of MCCAA Eastern Conference opponents. The pair of 3-0 victories lifts the Monarchs to 6-4 overall and pulls the team even in conference play at 2-2.
Wednesday's loss saw the visiting Hawks shift to 1-11 overall and 0-4 in the MCCAA East.
Much like Monday's sweep, the Monarchs started the night strong and never looked back on their way to victory. The Monarchs won set one by a 25-10 margin before taking set two, 25-13, and cruising to a 25-5 third set decision.
As a team, the Monarchs racked up 34 kills and limited their attack errors to single digits once again (9) to hit .291 for the match.
Adeline Tresnak (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) picked up where she left off Monday with 11 more kills and a .417 hitting percentage. The standout freshman only committed one error—her lone error of the week—to end an impressive two-match stretch with 22 kills on 40 attacks.
Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) followed with seven kills and added a team-best three block assists, while
Mallory Cardinale (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) checked in with five kills.
Hadley Schaefer (Harrison Twp., Mich./Parkway Christian) added four kills on five attempts with no errors and
Katarina Gavric (Canton, Mich./Salem) recorded three kills on five attempts with no errors to round out Wednesday's leaders on the attack.
Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) was in command from the setter position once again with 24 assists, while the defense was paced by a pair of Monarchs with 17 digs—
Nikole Nikolova (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) and
Becca Weiss (Dryden, Mich./Dryden).
Nikolova led the Monarchs in aces with five and Weiss followed closely with four of her own. Weiss, the team's leader in aces with 21 on the season, controlled the third set and served for 19 consecutive points, turning a 3-1 deficit into a commanding 20-3 lead.
The Monarchs have a bye in conference play on Monday and will return to action Wednesday (Sept. 27) at Jackson College. Match time is 7 p.m. on Jackson's campus.
