WARREN, Mich. – No. 3 Macomb Men's Basketball cruised their way back into the win column with a 100-71 home victory over the Oakland Community College Raiders on Saturday (Jan. 27) at the Sports & Expo Center. The 100-point performance marked the seventh time this season the Monarchs have hit triple digits. The victory lifted the Monarchs to their 15
th win of the campaign (15-3 overall, 4-1 MCCAA East).
The visiting Raiders fell to 4-14 overall and 1-4 in league play with the setback.
While it took some time to get rolling, the Monarchs were in control throughout and led 41-24 at the half before pouring in 59 second half points in the win. The Monarchs shot 55.1% overall (38-of-69), fueled by a 68.8% effort in the second half. Defensively, the Monarchs held the Raiders to 35.3% shooting (24-of-68).
The Monarchs outrebounded the Raiders, 49-29, and in turn earned a 21-8 edge in second chance points thanks to 15 offensive boards. The strong rebounding effort also led to a 50-24 advantage in points in the paint and a 24-4 differential in fast break points as the Monarchs looked to push the pace all afternoon.
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) recorded his third double-double of the season with game-high totals in points (18) and rebounds (12). The sophomore forward dished out three assists and was active defensively with three blocks and three steals to help lift the Monarchs to victory.
Five other Monarchs joined Williams in double figures scoring, led by
Jotham Nweke (Oak Park, Mich./Loyola) who tallied 15 points and while hauling in a career-high seven rebounds.
Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota/U-Indy) dropped in 14 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals and
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) was efficient once again with 13 points on 3-of-6 shooting from 3-point land to accompany a stat line of four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Nate Brown (Flint, Mich./Davison) and
Tate MacKenzie (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) checked in with 11 points each to round out six Monarchs in double figures. Brown dished out four assists and MacKenzie grabbed nine rebounds.
DaMaryon Fishburn (Detroit, Mich./Trillium Academy) added seven points on 2-of-4 shooting, while
Kyle Millender (Detroit, Mich./DEPSA) posted six points and four assists and
Justin James (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) recorded five points, four rebounds and three assists.
The Monarchs head to Detroit Wednesday (Jan. 31) to visit Wayne County Community College for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
