Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Maxey Posts 19 Point, 11 Rebound Double-Double, No. 6 Monarchs Cruise to 86-64 Road Win at Wayne County

The Monarchs, playing shorthanded once again, led by 14 at the break in the 22-point win.

DETROIT, Mich. – Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) recorded a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double to help lead No. 6 Macomb Men's Basketball to an 86-64 road victory over the Wildcats of Wayne County Community College District on Wednesday (Jan. 31) in Detroit. The win lifts the sixth-ranked Monarchs to 16-3 overall and more importantly 5-1 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.

The 5-1 conference record is good for a first place tie entering Saturday's round of games across the league.

The host Wildcats dropped to 0-6 in the MCCAA East and 8-10 overall after battling hard throughout against the nation's sixth-ranked squad.

After the Wildcats scored the first bucket of the game, the Monarchs immediately took the lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 24 points in the road victory. The Monarchs were up 45-31 at the half behind a red-hot 68.2% shooting effort. The team cooled off a bit in the second half but still shot 52.6% for the game.

Defensively, the Monarchs held the Wildcats to 37.1% shooting overall and a 27.3% clip from downtown.

Maxey posted team-leading numbers in points (19) and rebounds (11) and added three assists and a pair of steals for another well-rounded night on the hardwood. Nate Brown (Flint, Mich./Davison) poured in 15 points and added three rebounds and two assists, while Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) recorded 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Brown, Maxey and Williams all shot 50% from the field to pace an offense that featured all nine Monarchs tallying six-or-more points.

DaMaryon Fishburn (Detroit, Mich./Trillium Academy), Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota/U-Indy), Justin James (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) and Jotham Nweke (Oak Park, Mich./Loyola) posted seven points each, while Tate MacKenzie (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) and Kyle Millender (Detroit, Mich./DEPSA) each recorded six points.

Millender dished out a game-high five assists and hauled in four rebounds while James led the team in steals with three.

The Monarchs welcome the Jets of Jackson College to Warren on Saturday (Feb. 3) for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
