WARREN – Macomb Volleyball cruised to a 3-0 sweep over the visiting Hawks of Henry Ford College on Wednesday (Oct. 16) behind an impressive team performance. The win lifted the Monarchs to 6-3 in the MCCAA East with three matches remaining in league play. The Monarchs can officially clinch a spot in one of the NJCAA Great Lakes District Tournaments with their next league win or a combination of losses by other teams across the conference next week.
Kaley Eller (Utica, Mich./Utica) paced the Monarch attack with eight kills while
Kara Beeker (Warren, Mich./Warren Woods Tower) followed with seven kills on a .417 hitting percentage and
Grace Amoe (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) had six kills on an even .500 hitting percentage.
Taylor Dubay (Fraser, Mich./Fraser) helped end the match in three sets with a strong finish as part of a five-kill effort on a .429 hitting percentage to round out the leaders at the net.
Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) recorded 29 assists, 10 digs and a pair of aces to anchor the Monarchs' effort, while Eller led the team in digs with 12.
Alexis Cunha (Richmond, Mich./Anchor Bay) was next with eight digs, followed by twin sister
Ashlyn Cunha (Richmond, Mich./Anchor Bay) with six digs and a team-best three aces.
Jordan Pflaum (Shelby Twp., Mich./Lutheran High North) also recorded six digs on the night.
The Monarchs take a break from conference play for a tri-match at Madonna University on Monday (Oct. 21) against the host Crusaders JV at 3 p.m. and Spring Arbor JV at 5 p.m.
