WARREN – Comeback complete! Macomb Volleyball battled back from a pair of deficits to defeat St. Clair County Community College in five sets, improving their MCCAA Eastern Conference record to 5-1 in the process. With the 5-1 league mark, the Monarchs are in sole possession of second place in the MCCAA East, one game back of Wednesday's opponent, Mott Community College. The 5-1 league record also marks the best start in conference play under the guidance of sixth-year head coach Laure "Doogie" Rishell.
 
Set scores for Monday's home victory were 23-25, 25-19, 17-25, 25-23 and 15-12.
 
After losing a big lead late in the first set, the Monarchs bounced back to take the second set by a 25-19 margin. Set three went to the visiting Skippers, 25-17, but the Monarchs refused to quit, winning set four, 25-23, before taking the fifth and deciding set by a 15-12 final tally.
 
A leader in the box score most nights, Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) was simply in control Monday as the sophomore setter served up a career-high nine aces to accompany 32 assists, 18 digs and three kills. Monday's double-double was Elliott's 13^th of the season.
 
Jordan Pflaum (Shelby Twp., Mich./Lutheran High North) continued her impressive first collegiate season with a team-best 18 kills (only three errors) on 42 attempts for a .357 hitting percentage. Pflaum, who also recorded four digs and three block assists, was followed in double-digit kills by Kaley Eller (Utica, Mich./Utica) who brought her total to 43 kills over the past three matches with 10 more Monday evening. Eller added 13 digs and tied Plfaum with a trio of block assists.
 
Alexis Cunha (Richmond, Mich./Anchor Bay) and Sophia Kulaga (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) were sound defensively, adding 16 and 11 digs, respectively, to round out Monday's leaders.
 
The Monarchs visit MCCAA East leading Mott Community College on Wednesday (Oct. 9) at 7 p.m.
