MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) poured in 26 points to lead three Monarchs with 20-plus in the scoring column and six in double figures overall as No. 3 Macomb Men's Basketball cruised to a 106-98 road win over a well-coached and talented Mid Michigan College team on Saturday (Nov. 16) in Mount Pleasant.
The Monarchs were in control throughout and never trailed despite battling severe foul trouble, but the Lakers were able to end the game on an 8-0 run to account for the 106-98 final tally. The Monarchs led 60-49 at the half in the high-octane road contest.
With the win, the third-ranked Monarchs improved to 4-0 on the young season ahead of Wednesday's road tilt at 4-1 Lansing Community College. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at LCC's downtown Lansing campus.
Hines paced the Monarch attack with a stat-stuffing effort of 26 points, a career-high 11 rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Marlon Williams (Benton Harbor, Mich./Benton Harbor) dropped in a career-best 21 points and added seven rebounds and a pair of assists, while
Jotham Nweke (Oak Park, Mich./Loyola) tallied 20 to accompany four boards and two blocks despite being limited with early foul trouble.
DaMaryon Fishburn (Detroit, Mich./Trillium Academy) checked in next with 14 points, seven assists, six rebounds and two blocks while also battling foul trouble and
Jalen Jenkins (Belleville, Mich./Belleville) had 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Caron Williams (Mount Clemens, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) rounded out six in double figures with 11 points and added four rebounds.
The Monarchs shot 53.6% from the field and knocked down 25-of-33 shots from the charity stripe to earn win No. 4 of the season.
