Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hot Start, Garon’s Career Night Lead Women’s Basketball to 89-63 Home Victory

Sophomore forward Sydney Garon poured in a career-high 24 points to lead four in double figures Tuesday night in Warren.

WARREN – Macomb Women's Basketball started hot and never looked back on their way to an 89-63 home victory over the visiting Madonna University Crusader Reserves on Tuesday (Nov. 26) in Warren. The 26-point home win evened the Monarchs' record at 3-3 on the young season.

The Monarchs were red-hot from the opening tip, shooting 62.5% from the field in the opening frame, including a 63.7% mark from 3-point territory on seven made triples, to take a commanding 31-13 lead. Second quarter action saw the Monarchs cool a bit, but the massive first 10 minutes of play helped the Blue & White take a 46-26 advantage into the locker room at the half.

The Monarchs would outscore the Crusaders in the third quarter by a 23-14 margin and later dropped in 20 more points over the final 10 minutes of play to close out the 26-point home win.

Sydney Garon (Shelby Twp., Mich./Henry Ford II) poured in a career-high 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting overall and a 5-of-11 mark from downtown. The five triples tied Garon's collegiate career best, a mark set during her freshman campaign. The new career-high of 24 points was set without the help of playing in the fourth quarter as the sophomore leader sat due to the large lead through three quarters of action.

Asiyah Jihad (Farmington, Mich./North Farmington) dropped in 13 points in 15 minutes of action and knocked down a trio of 3-pointers as part of an efficient 5-of-6 effort from the floor. Jihad added six rebounds, a block and a steal, while Nave'yah Knott (Detroit, Mich./University High) nearly hauled in her first Macomb double-double with 10 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and a pair of steals.

Vanessa Galovich (Sterling Heights, Mich./Utica) was the fourth and final Monarch in double figures scoring with 10 points and added six rebounds.

The Monarchs return to action Dec. 6 with a huge home battle against the No. 14 Lakers of Mid Michigan College. Tip-off for the special Friday matinee matchup is set for 1 p.m. at the Sports & Expo Center.
