PORT HURON – The nation's 12
th ranked team proved to be too much for Macomb Volleyball on Thursday (Nov. 7) in the opening match of the Great Lakes District B Tournament as the Grand Rapids Community College Raiders won in three sets (25-15, 25-14, 25-20). With the setback, the Monarchs shift to the elimination portion of the bracket and will face a familiar foe when they take on Jackson College at 11 a.m. Friday.
The win-or-go-home match will take place at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron. The contest will also act as a rubber match after the teams split their two regular season meetings this year.
Kara Beeker (Warren, Mich./Warren Woods Tower) and
Jordan Pflaum (Shelby Twp., Mich./Lutheran High North) led the Monarch attack against Grand Rapids with eight kills each and
Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) recorded 19 assists.
Pflaum and
Kaley Eller (Utica, Mich./Utica) paced the defensive effort with eight digs each.
