WARREN – Macomb Women's Basketball (3-6) battled tough once again and put together a fourth quarter rally to force overtime against a hot-shooting Hocking College Hawks team on Tuesday (Dec. 17) at the Sports & Expo Center. The Hawks (7-5) made the most of the overtime period and went on to win the thriller by a 66-61 final to stave off a furious Monarch rally.
Perhaps a bit of foreshadowing, Tuesday's game was deadlocked through one quarter at an even tally of 20-20. The second quarter belonged to the Hawks as the Monarchs only posted four points in the frame compared to 15 for the visitors to account for a 35-24 halftime deficit.
After an even third quarter, the Monarchs needed a late push and the Blue & White got it in the form of a 20-10 advantage over the final 10 minutes of regulation to force overtime. After only scoring 19 points in 20 second half minutes, the Hawks' offense caught fire again in the extra frame as the visitors outscored the Monarchs 12-7 to earn the 66-61 victory.
Asiyah Jihad (Farmington, Mich./North Farmington) led the Monarchs with 19 points and added 10 rebounds for her third double-double at the collegiate level.
Vivian Urhobara (Lagos, Nigeria/Divine Light School) enjoyed her best game in a Monarch uniform with a double-double of 18 points and 16 rebounds—both career-high marks—and
A'Liyah Forris (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 points.
The Monarchs return to action quickly as the Blue & White host NJCAA Division III No. 6 Owens Community College on Wednesday (Dec. 18) at 5:30 p.m.
