Back in the Win Column! Macomb Upends NJCAA Division III No. 6 Owens, 90-76

The Monarchs used a complete effort to topple the sixth-ranked Express in Warren Wednesday evening.

WARREN – Back in the win column! Sydney Garon (Shelby Twp., Mich./Henry Ford II) poured in a career-high six 3-pointers as part of a game-high 22 points to lead Macomb Women's Basketball to a 90-76 upset victory over NJCAA Division III No. 6 Owens Community College. The Monarchs (4-6) led 27-13 after one quarter of play and never relinquished the early advantage on their way to the decisive victory.

After a stretch of games with unlucky shooting efforts, the Monarchs broke through against the visiting Express Wednesday, shooting over 40% for the third time this season. Turnovers also played a huge factor in the home tilt as the Monarchs forced 28 Express miscues to earn a commanding 36-13 points off turnovers advantage.

The well-rounded effort saw the Monarchs lead by as many as 27 in the 14-point home win.

Garon recorded a game-best 22 points to lead the way and added eight rebounds, while A'Liyah Forris (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) dropped in 19 points and Janiya McWilliams (Detroit, Mich./Warren Fitzgerald) netted a career-high 14 to go along with six assists and six rebounds. Asiyah Jihad (Farmington, Mich./North Farmington) posted 11 points, grabbed five rebounds and notched a game-best five steals in the win to round out the Macomb leaders Wednesday evening.

The Monarchs are back in action Saturday (Dec. 21) at home against Lake Michigan College at 1 p.m.
