WARREN – No. 4 Macomb Men's Basketball poured it on in the second half to earn a resounding 109-51 home victory over Owens Community College on Wednesday (Dec. 18) at the Sports & Expo Center. The fourth-ranked Monarchs, now 9-1 on the season, hit the court with a season-high nine active players as redshirt freshmen
Davion Guity (Bronx, NY/LA Premier Prep) and
Lajuan Holloway (Detroit, Mich./Oak Park) debuted in the 58-point victory.
Despite having the services and added size of the 6'8" Guity and 6'7" Holloway, the Monarchs remained at less than full strength in Wednesday's home tilt.
Up 15 at the break, the Monarchs turned it up a notch in the latter half as the Blue & White went on to outscore the Express by a staggering 61-18 tally over the final 20 minutes play to earn the lopsided win.
Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) continued his impressive redshirt sophomore campaign with 26 points on an ultra-efficient 11-of-14 effort from the field, including a 3-of-5 mark from 3-point range. Hines also added eight assists, snagged five rebounds and had a game-high five steals.
Guity wasted no time making noise in his debut with a game-best five 3-pointers as part of a 24-point night on 9-of-16 shooting overall while teammate
DaMaryon Fishburn (Detroit, Mich./Trillium) dropped in 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting (3-of-5 3PM) to go along with five rebounds.
Jotham Nweke (Oak Park, Mich./Loyola) nearly had a triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists and
Caron Williams (Mount Clemens, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to accompany five assists in the winning effort.
Jalen Jenkins (Belleville, Mich./Belleville) recorded a balanced eight points, seven rebounds and three assists while Holloway grabbed seven rebounds in his debut.
The Monarchs are idle until Dec. 29 when they host Fanshawe College for a 1 p.m. Sunday matinee tip-off.
