WARREN, Mich. – No. 6 Macomb Men's Basketball hit the century mark for the 10
th time and swept the season series with Henry Ford for the first time since 2016-17 in a 100-76 home victory over the Hawks on Saturday (Feb. 10). The win lifts the sixth-ranked Monarchs to 19-3 overall and keeps the Blue & White tied atop the MCCAA Eastern Conference standings at 8-1 in league play.
The Hawks fell to 14-7 overall and 6-3 in the MCCAA East with the 24 point setback. The Monarchs won the previous meeting of the season by a 93-81 final in Dearborn on Jan. 17.
In a game of runs early, the Monarchs raced out a 9-0 edge before the Hawks countered with a run of their own to take a 15-12 lead with 12:16 remaining on the first half clock. The Monarchs took over from there and ended the opening half on a 36-16 run to take a commanding 48-31 advantage into the locker room.
The Monarchs continued to pour it on after the break and went on to post 52 points in the latter half in a game that saw the Blue & White lead by as many as 31.
Shot selection was sound throughout the contest as the Monarchs connected on 50.7% of their field goal attempts. Defensively, the Monarchs held the Hawks to 36.4% shooting, including a 2-for-20 (10%) effort from 3-point territory in the second half.
The Monarchs also earned advantages in points in the paint (52-36), points off turnovers (21-10) and fast break points (14-6).
Tate MacKenzie (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) led the Monarchs with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting to pace six in double figures.
Kyle Millender (Detroit, Mich./DEPSA) was a difference maker throughout Saturday's league tilt as the sophomore guard was an efficient 5-of-7 from the field on his way to posting 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Nate Brown (Flint, Mich./Davison) followed with 14 points on a perfect 3-for-3 effort from the floor and added seven rebounds and three assists, while
DaMaryon Fishburn (Detroit, Mich./Trillium Academy) continued his ascension with a career-high 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Jotham Nweke (Oak Park, Mich./Loyola) recorded 12 points behind a 50% clip from the floor and added seven rebounds and four assists and
Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) posted 11 points, a game-high nine rebounds and five assists in the 24 point win.
Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) battled foul trouble throughout and still managed to record a stat line of eight points, seven rebounds and three assists, while
Justin James (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) had five points and four assists to round out Saturday's leaders.
The sixth-ranked Monarchs head to Flint on Wednesday (Feb. 14) for a Valentine's Day showdown with the Bears of Mott CC. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Ballenger Fieldhouse on Mott's campus.
