BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball traveled to the west side of the state for a non-conference return game against the Red Hawks of Lake Michigan College on Saturday (Feb. 10). The Monarchs were in control throughout and led by 14 at the half in a 71-58 victory to improve to 13-8 overall. The Red Hawks fell to 4-17 overall after their second setback of the season to the Monarchs.
The Monarchs shot out to a strong start and led 20-10 after one quarter of play and a 34-20 edge at the halftime break. Second half action saw the teams engage in a back-and-forth battle before the Monarchs earned the 15-point victory.
Tamia Tounsel (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) paced the Monarchs with 19 points and nine rebounds, while fellow sophomore
Marissa Thomas (Toledo, Ohio/Perrysburg) recorded 16 points to go along with four assists and three steals.
Sydney Garon (Shelby Twp., Mich./Henry Ford II) tallied 10 of her 12 points in the opening half to lead the Monarchs early and
Kamryn Richards (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) added 11 points, four assists and two steals in her return to the lineup.
Enddiea Reese (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) rounded out five Monarchs in double figures with 10 points and added five rebounds and a team-best four steals and
MaKayla Downs (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) dished out a team-high-tying four assists in the road win.
The Monarchs head to Flint on Wednesday (Feb. 14) for a 5:30 p.m. conference showdown with the Bears of Mott CC.
