No. 5 Monarchs Earn Best Conference Record in Program History With 102-69 Road Win, Set Sights on MCCAA Championship

The Monarchs posted a 13-1 conference record, the best record by winning percentage in program history.

JACKSON, Mich. – No. 5 Macomb Men's Basketball continued to roll on Tuesday (Feb. 27) and cruised to a 102-69 road win over Jackson College to wrap up the regular season with a 24-3 overall record and a 13-1 mark in MCCAA Eastern Conference play. The 13-1 league mark is the best conference record (by winning percentage) in program history.

With the league slate wrapped up, the Monarchs shift their attention to this weekend's MCCAA Championship in Escanaba. The fifth-ranked and MCCAA Eastern Conference Champion Monarchs will take on the MCCAA Western Conference Champions, Kalamazoo Valley, on Friday at 7 p.m. with the winner earning the right to face MCCAA Northern Conference Champion and host, No. 13 Bay College, on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The winner of this weekend's event will be crowned MCCAA Champions. The Monarchs have only won the MCCAA Championship once in program history (2021-22).

On Tuesday, the Monarchs pulled away midway through the first half and never looked back on their way to posting the 33-point victory. The nation's fifth-ranked team led 50-32 at the half and extended their advantage to as many as 35 points on a night where the they reached the century mark for the 12th time this season.

The win was the 10th in a row for first-year head coach Christopher Burns and the Monarchs. 

Kyle Millender (Detroit, Mich./DEPSA) led the Monarchs with a career-high 21 points and recorded seven rebounds and four assists to continue his sophomore ascension. Five other Monarchs joined Millender in double figures scoring as Jotham Nweke (Oak Park, Mich./Loyola) followed by netting a career-best 17 points and Nate Brown (Flint, Mich./Davison) posted a balanced line of 15 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Parker Day (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage/GVSU) returned to the lineup to record a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota/U-Indy) checked in with 12 points and Tate MacKenzie (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) had 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.
