WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball battled throughout and went toe-to-toe with Jackson College for most of the game, but the visiting Jets closed the conference contest on a 30-7 burst to earn a 75-52 win in Warren on Saturday (Feb. 3). The Monarchs shifted to 3-3 in the MCCAA East with the setback (12-7 overall). The Jets, a team receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll, moved to 17-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
In a game that featured four ties and a pair of lead changes, the Monarchs went back-and-forth with the Jets, including knotting up the game at 45-45 midway through the third quarter. Shots wouldn't fall for the Monarchs from there as the Jets ended the frame on an 8-0 run before posting a 22-7 edge in the fourth and final quarter.
Tamia Tounsel (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) recorded a 12-point, 14-rebound double-double to lead the Monarchs. The double-double was Tounsel's 11
th of the season and 14
th of her heralded Macomb career. The sophomore forward added a pair of blocks to complete her latest well-rounded game on the hardwood.
Marissa Thomas (Toledo, Ohio/Perrysburg) brought the balance once again with 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while
Sydney Garon (Shelby Twp., Mich./Henry Ford II) dropped in an equal 11 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists.
MaKayla Downs (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) checked in with eight points and
Kamryn Richards (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) recorded a stat line of six points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals.
The Monarchs remain home for a conference matchup with Schoolcraft on Wednesday (Feb. 7) at 5:30 p.m.
